I have not updated this website in over a year, and my consience is getting the best of me. I feel bad. I would like to start this post by saying that I am having quite a pleasurable summer, and hope the same for everyone else.
Since I’m in Thailand, and somehow the heads of school find it OK to take time out of our summers– and add little bits of vacation here and there to our long years at school– It is almost half way over.
My goal for the next school year, which will be my freshman year of highschool, is to be as damn smart as possible, and turn all A’s into “let’s bump that kid up a year,” (imagine that, but in a British accent.)
No one really cares that that is my goal for next year, but now that I have updated my blog, I do not have to worry about things like my consience saying ,” Write on your blog!” getting in the way of all my other thoughts. Next year, I will take notes on my blog, and if anyone finds them helpful, thanks for reading this. But seriously, I have given blogging a try, and to be honest, I’m not as big of a fan as bloggers.
Again, have a great summer, and thanks for reading!
Many people don’t care about changing the world. Their impressions of changing the world are, “it would too hard” or “why should I?” Let me tell you, it is not very hard if you really try, and if you really want to. Ghandi’s 10 rules to changing the world made this task much simpler. In simple sentences and words, he made a taks that, at the beggining, seems too hard to accomplish without a miracle or a good oppurtunity.
I have never cared about making a profound difference in the world, only for playing my part in the world an making a difference for myself and getting a good job. Being succesful, in my book, means getting a good job, and making to the top of the food chain. But that is just a part of succes. Succes is doing something, and than getting the most you can out of what you did. A person could be succesful in completing a test, or succesful in the basketball game, or anything else. If someone was to take an idea that would help or affect the world in someway, out time and effort into what they want to do, and than what they did turned out well, that person would be succesful.
What Ghandi wrote are more than just words of encouragement. His list is a guideline for people to make a difference. Reading what he wrote makes me wonder how I can make a good change. What Ghandi wants the world to do is so simple, and yet is the key to a better society. I now want to try following what Ghandi said, and see what I can do by playing my part in the rule.
This year has taught me, most of all, that concistency should be provided in all cirsumstances. Ghandi wanted everyone to follow his guide all the time, not just some of the time where one would feel like it. It is sometimes hard to be true to yourself,
My writing at the beginning of the year has improved in so many ways. I started out with the worst possible writing style, and most people cannot figure out what I am writing about. I remember at the begging of the year, I got a C on a writing assignment, all because it wasn’t organized and it was hard to identify the plot. Now, if you read one of my stories, you can probably understand what I am saying. Also, one thing that has improved in many ways over the year is when I use “I” or “you” when I am writing an informational piece of writing. What I am writing right now is more like a story. My understanding of words and vocabulary has also grown. This has been one on the most important years for me, because I have actually had fun with writing, and have tried to do my best with it. I still have many problems of course, but if you compared this piece of writing to my story from the beginning of year, then you will notice a huge improvement.

The former border zone is now a wildlife preserve with quirky museums and monuments.
The persistent efforts of environmental groups, Green parties, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and local municipalities transformed the swath into a natural park and an experiment in environmentally sustainable tourism called the Green Belt.
In case anyone doesn’t know, the iron curtain is the wall the separated West Germany from East Germany. It was a wall of hate, and was built after WWII by the Russians so they could keep it them as separate parts of Germany. It was a sad sight, until now. This wall is now a tourist attraction, because it is a biking trail, has a few museums along the way, and, of course, is a wildlife preserve. This wall goes across 20 countries.
Many years ago, part of the Berlin wall was destroyed by citizens who wanted to visit their families and leave the dreaded Germany. People hated this wall, but now have made good of it. The author of this article has traveled along it, and was lucky not to run along bears, lynx, or wolves, some of the animals that rome around there.
To many, this may not be such a big deal. For others like me, this is a great thing and should be acknowledged by all. Turning a wall that separated two halves of a Country turned into a house and tourist sight for many is great. I think the world is coming along great.
words that lead to losing a friend »« Character Perspectives
1. As we approached the big city, I was in an excited mood. There were all these lights and colors, I didn’t know how I would sleep that night. I was going to do so many things. I wanted to stay up all night, walking around and having fun. My parents would never let me go out all night in a big city, but that is what I wanted to do. All the attention to my PSP was gone. I was focused on the huge, colorful city.
2. I was reading books, until I noticed there was light on it. I looked up, and saw the city we were heading to. I am not that happy about this trip. I do not want to walk around all day and hear all the cars honking and all the pollution will just be plain disgusting. I like the more “green” environments. The only thing I am excited to do is get some steak. I wish my parents hadn’t dragged me here.
3. I was staring at the map, following our path, and realized we were there. I was so happy. I had waited to get to the big city my whole life. I stared forward, and saw all these cars. Traffic. We are going to have to wait a long time before we get there, but when we do, we will have a great time. I heard about this place and saw it in movies, and the people and sights.
It’s August sixth, 2009. You have gotten your schedule, and you have Mr. Mcgovern for math, and you have Mrs.Ulster for humanities. You have no idea what they are like. They are both really cool teachers, they have the same grading methods. In Humanities, your grades are based mostly on homework, not common assessments. Mrs.Ulster may say that it is worth a lot of you grade, but the homework is what brings your grade down. ALWAYS DO IT! In Mr.Mcgovern’s class, the grading is almost the same. Homework is what brings most of your grade down. Do all your homework, and you will have A’s.
I am very confident in the for this generation of kids and the topic of reading. Out of the five blogs I read, all the people had started out reading a lot, and continued to develope skills in literature and continue to love reading now-a-days. I had actually asked a few of my friends back in Virginia what their favorite thing to do is, and they said they liked playing video games, watching TV, surfing the web, and reading. . 20 years ago, a kid my age would respond to that question with a list extracurricular activities, and none of them would involve the internet or TV. My personal opinion on this matter is that as technology progresses, people don’t stupider, but don’t do what people did in the old days, and some people think that that is a very bad thing. The internet is a useful tool (with Mcafee safesearch installed) to help people learn and experience the world. The TV has great channels that really educate through something more engaging then sitting all alone in a room reading a textbook. These are great tools, just most people choose to use them wrong and don’t get what is meant to get out of them. The blogs I read said that as they (the authors of the blogs)were little, they would read Dr.Seuss, kiddy books from Russia (the giant turnip, which also was one of my favorites), and Kira-Kira, which actually is not a kiddy book, but a powerful story of a girl in world war two. I think that people will not stop writing books, because many people in our Humanities could be writers. The population is growing, and I am sure that people will conitinue to produce well written books.
The Reading of my Past
My childhood was the base of my personality. I was imaginative, creative, but very reluctant to read. I never wanted to read, but was usually forced to by my mom. What I read when I had to was, “The Magic Tree house,” about a boy and girl that find a tree house filled with books that take them to the settings of the books. When they arrive in the place, the whole story of the book plays out, and they are the main characters. I would also read non-fiction books about bugs and spiders, because those books always had “interesting pictures” in them. Any other books bored me.
The majority of my childhood was spent playing outside with my friends. One day, a few weeks before I went to my grandparents to visit, I picked up a book called “Despereaux,” a book about a mouse that liked humans and there lifestyle rather than the other mice’s lifestyle. The book also contained two other stories, about a girl sold to a horrible man, then sold to royalty to work, and a rat that liked light and wanted to live like royalty rather than in the sewers. The three stories later intertwined and turned into one story. This book fascinated me, and changed my life significantly by opening my mind to new books and stories. I started to read a lot more, and didn’t have to be told.
When I finally went to my grandparents’ place in Omaha, I brought along all my magic tree house books and read them within a week. I read a whole one sitting on the porch with my grandma, and at the age of seven, that’s an accomplishment. Books affected my life greatly when I was a child, and still do. Now-a-days, I go through cycles. When I have a bunch of books I do not like, I pretty much just stop reading. Then, when I am required to read a book, I start reading more frequently.
Most of the kids my age in those times were playing play station, and they all had game boys. I was the only kid without one. One Christmas, I got a game boy, and played it a lot. I still read, but my mom and I had to go back to the old way, my mom making me read. After about two months later, I became more balanced and split my time equally.
I loved to read when I was a kid, but nothing matched up to my dad reading Harry Potter to me. When I was six, he started reading the second Harry Potter to me and as I aged, we continued the series with him reading to me and me reading to him. That really helped my vocabulary, and helped me bump up one reading level. Reading good books was a great pleasure when I was kid, and still is. I will never forget reading “The Magic Tree house” books, “Depereaux”, or “Harry Potter.”
What Will Happen to Reading »« Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
The funniest book I have ever read! The hitchikers Guide is about as random as it gets. Because there is barely a plot. What I have made out of this book is that Authur Dent, Ford Perfect, Zaphod Beeblebrox, Tricia Macmillan, and a depressed robot that hates everything set out on a journey to wherever fate puts them. This book starts out with the world getting blown up. Authur’s best friend, Ford Perfect, has turned out to be an alien from outer space, and knows when the aliens come. Authur and Ford Perfect hitchhike a ride from the spaceship and survive, but are later ejected from the ship into space. In the last thirty seconds of there lives, a space ship picks them up. And then the adventure begins! If you are ready for a funny, interesting, and engaging book than you should read this. I honestly had no complaints about this book. There are five and a half books to the series. I recommened this book to anyone that wants a book that will make them laugh out loud and are having trouble picking a book.
